  • Born in Bordeaux in 1946, descended from a line of architects from Lille through his father and from Bordeaux through his mother, Sylvain Dubuisson does not belong to any school. If the creator of furniture and objects in him has sometimes seemed to take precedence over the architect, they are in reality inseparable. The sixty-four pages of pencil projects forming the preamble to this study prove it. “The hand thinks and carries with it,” declares Dubuisson, “all the grandeur and all the imperfection of sensitivity.” We thus see the spiral appear in the legs of the armchairs, the twist of the candlesticks, the volute of a staircase. Another constant in his work is the literary reference materially present in the lamps, sometimes visible, sometimes hidden. Demonstrating great mastery of industrial constraints, Sylvain Dubuisson explores all the possibilities of new technologies. Thus, through the diversity of a work where material and spiritual come together, he transmits “a discourse sometimes clear, sometimes tenuous, sometimes occult, which transcribes the consciousness of our daily life”.
