  • Born in New York into a family of diamond merchants, Barbara Berger began collecting costume jewelry at the age of thirteen, when her mother died. Today, in Mexico, she has collected thousands of pieces. Spectacular and inventive, full of freshness and humor, with flora and fauna as an inexhaustible source of inspiration, and sometimes more imaginary and fantastical themes, they are signed by the biggest names: Chanel, Schiaparelli, Dior, Roger Scemama and Roger Jean-Pierre in France; Miriam Haskell, Trifari and Coro in America; Coppola & Topo in Italy. From the 1920s to the end of the 1960s, we follow the evolution of fashions through the history of costume jewelry. Originally created as unique pieces or made in a small series, intended to adorn a haute couture collection, it gradually replaced fine jewelry to become, with American industrial production in the 1940s, a popular art form, a harbinger of ready-to-wear jewelry.
