The 60s and 70s marked a turning point in the history of decoration and furniture, until then confined to national and elitist expressions. Inspirations became multiple, at the same time Scandinavian, Anglo-Saxon, French and Italian. Luxurious furniture in plastic or metal appeared, and objects of all origins invaded interiors. New technologies gave rise to new ways of living, with shapes becoming rounder, seats transformed into carpet-sculptures, colors and patterns embracing the delirium of Pop Art and psychedelia. At the end of the 1970s, classic elegance definitively gave way to a multitude of representations that defied any classification. The time for post-modernism had come. A long introduction by Patrick Favardin gives a synoptic vision; this is followed by thirty-two monographs which describe its multiple faces. This book makes an exceptionally creative period intelligible and reveals, through abundant iconography, often unpublished, its formidable aesthetic richness.
