  • Some architects embody what is most extraordinary about their time. Jacques Hondelatte (1942-2002) is undoubtedly one of these such explorers and magicians. During the thirty years in which he carried out project after project, everything he designed was a source of wonder. Whether it was a private house or the Millau viaduct, an office building, the development of a street in Niort or the surroundings of Mont-Saint-Michel, he knew how to go as close as possible to function to transform it into legend. The Grand Prix national d'architecture, awarded to Jacques Hondelatte in 1998, rewarded not only the assembly of a demanding and singular body of work, supported by exemplary conviction and determination, but also the architectural creativity, research and teaching of this architect, who chose to live and work in Bordeaux. “This book attempts to find the keys that allowed him, while remaining deeply anchored in reality, to escape the realistic world in which modernity was lost,” writes its author Patrice Goulet.
