  • Trained at the School of Decorative Arts in Paris, where he studied between 1895 and 1899, François Décorchemont is a major figure in the history of arts du feu. His research on glass places him among the rare creators who knew how to evolve from the naturalism of Art Nouveau to the rhythmic geometries of Art Deco. An alchemist of color, he plays on metamorphoses and on the mutation of materials to create a thick glass paste with infinite nuances, in which light has a determining role. More than thirty years after his death, Véronique Ayroles creates a window into his creativity in the climate of excitement which determined the rise of the decorative arts at the end of the 19th century and motivated the rediscovery of forgotten techniques. The book includes reproductions of all 600 known models in the form of a catalog raisonné, and nearly fifty unpublished drawings placed in the context of the creations and numerous archival documents. There is also a technical glossary, and an index of galleries and models, making this publication an exceptional tool for learning about the work of a great artist.
