At the heart of the excitement of the 1980s, a generation of innovative artists – Mark Brazier-Jones, Marco de Gueltzl, Thierry Peltrault, Franck Evennou, Elizabeth Garouste, Hubert Le Gall, Laurence Picot, Andrea Salvetti, later Claude de Wulf – emerged, equipped with talent, complete freedom and eccentricity. Each bears witness to the importance of artistic craftsmanship, and all take particular paths in order to express universal emotions in their own way. This wave of creative genius has been promoted for nearly forty years by Elisabeth Delacarte, who witnessed the changes in the decorative arts of the 20^th century, thanks to her gallery, Avant-Scène. In-depth portraits and decoration projects punctuate the book, marking the Delacarte years as a part of the history of contemporary creation.

The author

Specialising in the luxury industries, Laurence Picot has worked as a journalist for Le Monde, Elle and Paris Match. She has taught a master's degree in Luxury Industry Management at the University of Paris-Est and created the LuxInside concept art science, and photographs and scans of iconic luxury objects exhibited in China, Argentina, Brazil, Canada and at the Grand Palais in Paris. She has written books and a historical documentary on the birth of French luxury in the 17^th century for Arte.
