  • A dealer and collector, Yves Gastou explored the significant trends in the decorative arts of the 20th century through discoveries and rediscoveries. His career begins in the provinces, where he put Art Nouveau and Art Deco back in the spotlight. He then discovered André Arbus in 1972, in Toulouse. This great cabinetmaker of the 1940s remains in some way the hinge which shifted his taste towards the second half of the 20th century.

As soon as he settled in Paris, Yves Gastou turned to the 40s, 50s, then the 70s, not to mention the design of the 80s, of which he remains the contemporary promoter. In December 1985, he opened his Parisian gallery, rue Bonaparte, attached to the School of Fine Arts, in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés with a facade made of terrazzo black and white by Ettore Sottsass. He would in fact be the first merchant in Paris to dare to mix decorative arts and contemporary design, at the dawn of the 80s.
