  • Known for his multiple sketchbooks and for the majestic Porte Dorée palace in Paris, the architectural work of Albert Laprade (1883-1978) is considerable and his career is atypical. Beginning as a collaborator of Henri Prost in Morocco, he then worked for a wealthy French clientele, before acquiring his notoriety as a creator of modern gardens at the Exhibition of Decorative Arts in Paris in 1925. Then came the industrial and monumental projects of maturity, such as the powerful Génissiat dam (1939). After the Second World War, Laprade illustrated and defended the heritage of streets and public spaces through thousands of drawings. His numerous writings deal with professional ethics, bringing together architects and engineers, and taking into account the aspirations of the public.
Through a thematic approach, this book reveals an abundant and eclectic life which intersects, for the pleasure of the connoisseur as well as the simply curious, the history of architecture, urbanism and gardens in the 20th century.
