Deploying a remarkable technique, Max Ingrand (1908-1969) never ceased to explore the play of glass and light that he discovered as a child in the stained glass windows of Chartres. A major figure in Art Deco with antique-style engraved decorations, he returned to stained glass after the war with an expressionist work which is one of the most prolific of the century, before integrating light into the material itself in the incandescent lighting fixtures of the 1950s. Artistic director of Fontana Arte, collaborator of Saint-Gobain and founder of the company Verre Lumière, the master glassmaker devoted the end of his life to experimenting with new technologies, in search of a transparent architecture.
