  • Nomad, design agitator, Peter Pan jet-setter, kawaii sweetheart, Claudio Colucci can't sit still. Geneva, Paris, Tokyo, and recently Shanghai and Beijing come to subtitle his name, like a luxury brand. We focus too often on his Joker smile. But what you see is not necessarily what you get… Claudio is a confabulator.

Creator of narrative objects, of places full of history, generous in pirouettes and paradoxes, he finds the leavening of his inspiration in the art of storytelling. "I like fabulation, telling stories, inventing... true or false... rather false with a somewhat true start... blurring the lines... playing!" he trumpets.

Under the direction of Sarah Carrière-Chardon, independent curator, his fellow travelers joined the adventure: the designers Tom Dixon, Christian Ghion, Tsé & Tsé, the pastry chef Sébastien Gaudard, the architects Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham, the stylist Paul Smith and the sweet Chika, a geisha from Kagurazaka and Michel Temman, ex-correspondent for Libération in Japan, who like Claudio settled in China. From Paris, the agent Dominique Serrell, with whom the gallerists Pierre Romanet and Pierre Staudenmeyer were the first to exhibit and publish his creations. His Japanese sempaï (godfathers): the essential Teruo Kurosaki, the producer Takaya Iwasaki and the communications director of Hermès Japan, Kozo Fujimoto, who opened the doors to the East for him. Finally, Kanae Hasegawa, critic, Ruy Niimi, professor at Musashino Art University, Marie-Laure Jousset, honorary chief curator at the Centre Pompidou, Gérard Laizé, director of the VIA or Christine Colin, inspector at the Ministry of Culture, who made its critical fortune.

These notable personalities in Claudio's journey have all taken part in the story and the game. Between the Chinese portrait which can be interpreted by analogy and the kaleidoscope, whose variations on the same motif evolve with each turn of the hand or with each wink of the eye, each guest came to bring his touch and his angle of view to the Coluccian epic... Playing with the usual format of the design book, this monograph is more of an affabulation, unless it is an anticipation of a novel?
