A leading artist on the contemporary art scene, since 1993 Johan Creten has been developing works focused on bronze and ceramic – a material whose plastic potential he grasped very early – combining popular imagery, sensuality and beauty.
A former resident of the Villa Médicis (1996) and the Manufacture nationale de Sèvres (2004-2008), Johan Creten quickly gained international recognition which led him to be exhibited throughout the world. His work, seductive from the first glance, skillfully superimposes a baroque treatment with a classical spirit. Behind sinuous shapes such rich and attractive enameled drips, there is often a fairly virulent denunciation of the different forms of violence against man, homophobia, xenophobia, etc. From June 3, 2016, Johan Creten was invited to invest in the vineyards and estate of Château de Pommard (Côte-d'Or). Twelve works, which this catalog presents, put into perspective with their references, will be integrated into nature and buildings, offering a strong confrontation between this now legendary artist and this exceptional domain.
