This book is the first work devoted to the life and work of Evsa Model (1899-1976), a unique artist of Russian origin, active in Paris in the 1920s, who later emigrated to America with his wife, photographer Lisette Model. Saturated canvases of skyscrapers and geometric compositions without perspective, between which appear graphic signs or symbols, a silhouette, a face, an eye; his use of bright areas of color reflects his fascination with New York City. A painter, but also a gallery owner and bookseller of genius, as well as the curator of the decorations of his life in a quest for total art, he stands on the margins of the 20th century avant-gardes, between constructivism and minimalism, abstraction and figuration.
On the occasion of the publication of the work Evsa Model: American Painter, the Baudoin Lebon gallery presents the exhibition “Evsa Model. First Sight” and “Lisette Model. Belmont Park.”
