  • An essential designer of the 20th century, Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999) was one of the founders of modern interior architecture. One of the pioneers of design, although her approach remained above all that of an architect, she continued to engage in political and ethical reflection on housing during the seventy years of her creative life. Aware of the need to respond to the aspirations of a society in full change, discovering in Japan an aesthetic and a philosophy which meet Western modernity, Charlotte Perriand, through her freedom and her extreme rigor, defined a radically new living space which, today, is perfectly natural to us. Produced thanks to the Perriand archives being made available for the first time, this monograph covering the period from 1903 to 1959 reveals an extremely complex history of creation which is intimately linked to political thought, through Charlotte Perriand's friendships and collaborations with the greatest architects, engineers and artists of his time.

“A great book which retraces the career of this extremely modern woman.”
    Laurence Mouillefarine, Madame Figaro.
